Pursuit of Suspect Ends in Two Arrests

By Jessie Williams

A wanted man was captured by local authorities after fleeing from a vehicle last week.

According to Macon County Detective Kevin Woodard, an off-duty officer observed a man believed to be wanted on outstanding warrants riding in a black, spray painted Dodge Avenger Wednesday, June 30.

After reporting the siting to those on duty, officers Jacob Law, Josh Meador, Tim Freeman, William Tuck, detective Jacob McClard, detective Woodard and Sheriff Mark Gammons arrived in the area to search for the vehicle.

The vehicle was later spotted in the Maple Grove Rd. area by Deputy Freeman  who attempted to make a traffic stop. The passenger then jumped out of the vehicle on foot, while the driver sped off.

Officer Freeman chased the passenger on foot and notified other units that the driver was headed towards Brattontown Rd. He was unsuccessful in locating the passenger.

Deputy Law made contact with the vehicle on Maple Grove Rd. and the driver, 30-year-old Anthony Barrett, was detained and charged with driving on a revoked license.

At that time it was verified the passenger that fled from the car was 32-year-old Alan Michael Long of Red Boiling Springs.

Long had warrants out for his arrest for violating his probation and failing to appear in court.

Later that night, Tennessee State Trooper Zack Raney and detectives McClard and Woodard stopped a vehicle containing Mr. Long.

Mr. Long was injured at the time and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Upon his release, he turned himself in and was booked into the Macon County Jail.

He was charged with two counts of violation of probation and failure to appear.

Long is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on July 7, 2021.

Sheriff Gammons would like to thank all of the deputies that were involved in apprehending the suspect and the Tennessee High Patrol and Lafayette Police Department for their assistance.

This case remains ongoing and additional charges are pending.
