The Macon County Fair is Back!

The Macon County Fair is back this year, and will kick-off this Saturday, July 31, 2021, at the Macon County Fairgrounds, with the car show scheduled for 8 a.m. till 3 p.m., the Lego Building Contest at 9 a.m., the Macon County Fair opening ceremony at 5:45 p.m., the Fair Princess Pageant at 6:00 p.m., and the Fairest of the Fair Pageant and Demolition Derby at 7:00 p.m. 

Fair admission on Saturday, July 31, is $3.00 per person from 8 a.m. till 12 noon, and $10 per person from 12 noon till closing (all morning proceeds will be matched by the Macon County Fair Board and donated to the Macon County Backpack Program). Admission on Monday & Tuesday, August 2 & 3: adults $5 (All K-12 students admitted free on Tuesday); Wednesday, August 4: adults $5; Thursday night, August 5: adults $5 (Macon County Veterans admitted free); Friday, August 6: adults $10. On Saturday,  August 7 admission is $1.00 per person from 8 a.m. till 12 noon, and $10 per person from 12 noon till closing (all morning proceeds will be matched by the Macon County Fair Board and donated to the Macon County Backpack Program). Admission for children ages 6-12 is $1 each night and children under the age of 6 with parents, will be admitted free each night. 

This year a total of $10,600 in cash will be given away at the fair around 9 p.m. each night with $2,000 given on July 31; $1,250 on August 2; $1,250 on August 3; $1,250 on August 4; $1,250 on August 5; $1,600 on August 6; and $2,000 on August 7. 

A Gospel Afternoon is scheduled for Sunday, August 1, beginning at 3:00 p.m. on the Wilburn Pavilion stage. 

The fair will officially get underway on Monday, August 2, with the Petite Miss Pageant beginning at  6 p.m., along with the kids fun night, and the Sweetheart Pageant and the Sheep Show at 7 p.m. Carnival armbands are $16 on Monday.

Tuesday’s events include the Pedal Pull, Goat Show, Century Farms, and Mule Show at 6 p.m. and the Mrs. Macon County Pageant and Battery Powered Vehicles beginning at 7 p.m. The Ms. Senior Macon County Pageant will immediately follow the Mrs. Macon County Pageant. Carnival armbands can be purchased for $16.

On Wednesday, fair guests will be invited to attend the Little Miss Fair Pageant and the hog show, both at 6 p.m., followed by the Miss Fair Pageant. The lawn mower pull is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday is also ‘Church Night Armband Special’ night, costing $15 from 5 p.m. to closing time. 

Thursday events include Senior Citizens Day lunch and Bingo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Baby Show at 5:30 p.m., Young Cattleman’s Show at 6 p.m., Commercial Beef Heifer Show at 6:15 p.m., Beef Show at 6:30 p.m. and the Antique Tractor Pull at 7 p.m. On Thursday, carnival armbands can be purchased for $18 per person.

The Tractor Pull will take place on Friday night at 7 p.m. and the Flat Rock Ramblers will be in concert beginning at 7:30 p.m.  Carnival armbands will cost $18 on Friday.

The Backyard Cook-Off will kick-off the Saturday, August 7th, events at 8:30 a.m. with the 4-H Poultry Show & Sale scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. The Iron Skillet Contest will start at 1 p.m., followed by the Youth Pet Show at 2 p.m., a cornhole tournament at 5 p.m., and the Talent Show at 5:30. The Truck Pull will be held at 7 p.m. Admission to the Truck Pull will cost $10 for adults and is free for children 12 and under. The entry fee for contestants will be $20. A live concert by the Lugg Nutts will close out the 2021 fair events in the Martha Wilburn Pavilion. Carnival armbands can be purchased on Saturday for $18. 

Commercial and educational exhibits and the Women’s Building will be open for viewing each day, August 2-7, from 5-10 p.m. Be sure to stop in and check out all of the entries!

During fair hours, the Farm Toy Show will be on display in the Bill Speck Building, and be sure to stop by the Little Red School House August 2-7 between 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., where different Macon County schools and school organizations will be featured each day. 

Fair exhibits will include submissions in the following adult categories: canning, clothing, creative table setting, field crops, fine art, floral, gardening, home cookery, needlework & crafts, Bee Keeping & Honey and photography. Youth exhibits will include arts & crafts, canning, home cookery, egg contest,  floral, club projects, gardening, needlework, photography, posters, youth projects/exhibits, table setting and sewing.
