Wanted Men Found Hiding Under Residence

By Jessie Williams

Two wanted, Lafayette men were arrested last week after officers found them hiding under a residence with a baggie containing methamphetamine.

According to a report filed by Deputy Josh Meador of the Macon County Sheriff’s Department, he and Deputy Aaron Shipley, Detective William Tuck and Detective Jacob McClard arrived at a residence on June 15, 2022 in search of Anthony Barrett, who had an active warrant out for his arrest.

A blue, four-door, Chevrolet - known to be driven by Barrett - was parked in the driveway of the residence.

Officers spoke with the owner of the rental property, and she gave her consent to search the home. Once inside, officers located two individuals, but did not find Mr. Barrett. They then exited the residence.

A short time later, Deputy Shipley advised that he could see two individuals laying underneath the residence. He gave verbal commands for the two men to exit, yet neither complied.

Detective McClard began pulling the underpinning from the residence, and located a man identified as 31-year-old Spencer Linville.

Mr. Linville had an active warrant for his arrest, and he was placed into custody.

The second man exited from underneath the residence after again being given verbal commands by law enforcement, and was placed into custody without incident. He was identified as 33-year-old Charles Morrison. Mr. Morrison also had an active warrant for his arrest for aggravated assault.

Deputy Shipley went under the residence to retrieve Morrison’s phone, and also discovered a green cigarette pouch. Inside the pouch was a clear, plastic baggie containing approximately 3.4 grams of a crystalized substance believed to be methamphetamine. Around $200 in cash was also located in the pouch.

Both subjects were transported to the Macon County Jail, and warrants were obtained for Mr. Morrison for possession of methamphetamine. Deputy Meador was advised at that time that Mr. Linville had left a court-ordered rehabilitation facility and not returned to jail, and an arrest warrant for Escape was obtained.

Mr. Morrison was charged with violation of probation, aggravated assault and manufacture/delivery/possession of methamphetamine. His bond was set at $55,000, and he is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on June 22 and July 27, 2022.

Mr. Linville was charged with violation of probation and escape. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on June 22 and July 27, 2022.

Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons would like to commend all of the officers involved in this case.
