Adam Jent, Jordon Kyle Jent, Alan Keith Gaines, Jr, Darren Fryer, Buddy Jent, and David Gaines served as active pallbearers. Interment followed in the Anderson Memorial Park with Military Honors. George married the love of his life, Virginia Dare Wilson on August 11, 1946, sharing sixty-four years together and raising two sons and one daughter; Virginia survives. George was a Christian and a member of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky. He served in the United States Army during World War II 1944-1946. He was in Germany with the 10th, Armored Division crossing the Rhine at Heidelberg, shortly after Patton. Staff Sergeant Gaines spent most of his time in Bavaria, Munich, Berchtesgaden and others.  Staff Sergeant Gaines spent a year as part of the occupation forces in and around Cologne. He was discharged from the 9th, Infantry Division with a Military Occupation Specialist First Sergeant in June 1946.
He received the E.A.M.E. Ribbon with a Bronze Star; Good Conduct Medal; Victory Medal World War II ; and Occupation Medal in Germany. In 1953 he graduated from the University of Kentucky, College of Pharmacy and practiced pharmacy for over 45 years in Louisville, Kentucky, he was a member of Kentucky Pharmacy Association. Besides his wife of sixty-four years George is survived by; sons, Dr. Alan Keith and (Donna) Gaines of Simpsonville, KY, and Charles Bruce (Jan) Gaines of Louisville, KY, daughter, Cynthia Lynette (Buddy) Jent of Bowling Green, KY, brother, Doyle (Shirley) Gaines of Lafayette, TN, grandchildren, Devon Nicole Gaines, Alan Keith Gaines, Jr., Haley Marie Gaines, Kristin Renee Jent (Darren) Fryer, Adam Douglas Jent, and Jordan Kyle Jent, three nieces and a nephew; also survive.
