Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY. Loys was born at Lamb, KY, June 13, 1910 to the late Clay and Orien (Johnson) Johnson. Her parents took her and her siblings to the Indian Creek Baptist Church in Flippin, KY were she came under conviction and was born again at the age of twelve. Loys recalled her experience by saying that it was during revival and she bowed her head on the pew in front of her and that’s when the Lord saved her soul. On Nov. 6th, 1922, Loys joined the Indian Creek Baptist Church where she has been a faithful member for 87 and half years. Loys then married the love of her life, Lilburn Edison Hughes on April 8, 1928 and they were married for sixty years until he departed this life on Sept. 25, 1988. Unto this union were born two children, Martha Elizabeth Howard and James Edison and his wife Linda Hughes, who survives. Loys Ellen Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters: Margaret Turner, Gladys Downing, Anna Lee Hughes, one brother, J.N. Johnson, her son-in-law, Leroy Howard and one great granddaughter, Heather Dawn Howard. Other than Loys’ children, she is survived by five grandsons: Michael (Gail) Howard, John (Kathy) Howard, Stephen (Karen) Howard, James Kirk (Cindy) Howard, and William (Stacy) Howard and two granddaughters: Connie (Howard) Goodman and Leigh (Wesley) Costello. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and host of friends and neighbors. She will be missed/ by all that knew and loved her.
