The only child of the late Will Herod “John Reuben” Brim who died November 12, 1963 at the age of 69 and Lena May Bradford Brim who died April 15, 1993 at the age of 96, she was born Mary Helen Brim in the Riddleton Community on January 15, 1923. In Ringgold, Georgia on January 1, 1942 she was united in marriage to Watervale native Frank Thomas McCall. He preceded her in death at the age of 81 on June 15, 2003. Mrs. McCall was the valedictorian of the 1941 class of Carthage High School. Her career began as a teacher in the one room former Riddleton Grade School where she taught grades 1-8 during World War II. She was an Avon representative for many years, and for 25 years served as bookkeeper for her son’s McCall’s Ductwork. A homemaker and matriarch of the family farm, she was always lending counsel and wisdom to her children and their childhood friends and to her husband Frank when he would listen. Mrs. McCall was a longtime member of the Plunketts Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Rock City.
Surviving are her five children, Tom McCall and wife Patsy of Lafayette, Jack McCall and wife Kathy of Hartsville, John D. McCall and wife Phyllis of Tanglewood, Dewey McCall and wife Reba of Hillsdale, Shari McCall Wills and husband Ken of Brentwood; ten grandchildren, Frank McCall & wife Hillary, J. Brim McCall & wife Emily, Jonathan McCall & wife Katie & Joseph McCall, Lynn McCall Kemp and husband Joe Allen, Carson McCall & fiancée Karla, Olivia and Dyer McCall, Kendra & Jackson Wills; four great-grandchildren, Josie, Luke, Oakley & Elizabeth Jane McCall; caregivers, Lena Woodard & Evelyn Cowan; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Helen McCall, A. B. & Virginia McCall, Charles & Mildred McCall Hix, Mary Nell McCall Hight, Gary & Ruth McCall Garrett, Rebecca Hackett McCall, John E. & Kay McCall. The family requests memorials to the Plunketts Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
