Bro. Jimmy Gregory, his Pastor, officiated the 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon services from Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Dixon Springs Cemetery.
One of eight children of the late Herbert & Deltha Nixon Wilmore, he was born Johnny Eldon Wilmore on February 22, 1915 in the Wilmore Hollow in the Graveltown Community. He was preceded in death by five siblings, Odell Wilmore, J.C. Wilmore, Ruby Brooks, Mettie Dickerson, and Edith Hackett.
On September 25, 1937 he was united in marriage to the late Nellie Mae “Nell” Boston of Stonewall. His wife of over seventy years preceded him in death on May 10, 2008.
They were preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joann Wilmore.
Along with his brother Odell, Mr. Wilmore was the owner and operator of the Wilmore General Merchandise Store in Monoville and was appointed the Monoville Postmaster on April 19, 1980.
An active member of the Peyton Creek Baptist Church, he had served as Church Clerk, Sunday School Superintendent, and was appointed as Deacon on October 30, 1955.
Mr. Wilmore is survived by four children, Barbara Wilmore Dawson & husband Hilary of Shelbyville, Nelda Wilmore Bayer & husband Mike of Louisville, Ky., Johnny Eldon Wilmore Jr. & wife Debbie Adsmond Wilmore of Hendersonville, Jerry Wilmore & wife Cindy Franklin Wilmore of Monoville; a sister, Ogeal Dickerson & husband Milton of Carthage; a brother, Kenneth Wilmore & wife Barbara of Gallatin; seven grandchildren, Kevin Dawson & wife Lori, David Dawson & wife Julie, Stephen Carter & wife Shelley, Synthia Harris & husband Dave, Heather Hornbeak & husband Jesse, Jennifer Wilmore, Clayton Eldon Wilmore; six great-grandchildren; caregivers Hilda Flatt, Dot Craighead, Sue Humphreys, Jackie Irby & Jayrah Hire.
