The Macon County High School Basketball teams had two successful homecoming District 9AA challenges last Tuesday night, with the Tigerettes defeating Greenbrier by a final score of 90-40, and the Tigers winning their game, 64-49.

The Lady Cats were held to a low five points after the opening quarter, and by halftime, Macon County had achieved an impressive 45-12 lead. Unwilling to let down their guard, the Tigerette team continued to dominate their opponent in the third period, leading 75-25, before winning with a 50-point victory over Greenbrier, MC 90, GHS 40.

The Tigerettes improved their season record to 19-2, as Greenbrier fell 7-14.

Macon County also hit an impressive 3-point streak during this game, nailing 13 of their three-pt. attempts by Kailyn Brooks (3), Kelsey Gregory (4), Haley Harris (1), Katie Beth Meador (1), Alyssa Tuck (2), and Whitney Wilburn (2).

The Tigerettes were led to victory with 20 points from Kelsey Gregory, followed by Katelyn Bean and Whitney Wilburn with 12 points each, Haley Harris with 11 points, Kailyn Brooks with nine points, Alyssa Tuck with eight points, Michaela Thompson with seven points, Katie Reid with four points, Katie Beth Meador with three points, and Jade Ellis and Terra Pryor with two points each.

The MCHS Tigers improved to 16-7 after defeating Greenbrier (8-12) by a final score of 64-49.

Greenbrier led the Tigers 24-16 in the opening round, however the Tigers made a seven-point comeback by Tyler Manning to lead 34-31 with two minutes remaining on the scoreboard.

Greenbrier added a lay-up at 56.3 to trail by one point. Trey McPherson was fouled under the goal to inch Macon County’s lead, 36-34 with 3.6 on the game clock. The Bobcats in-bounded the ball to end the first half of play, and with one last attempt, tied the game at 36 each.

The Tigers returned in the third quarter, and denied the Bobcats all but one 3-point shot, while putting in a 15-point team effort from Zack Billenstein, Trey McPherson, Dallas Grace, Shawn Kemp, Tyler Manning, and Mic Wise.

Greenbrier tried to make a comeback in the last quarter, with their closest trail being at six points, however with five minutes remaining, the Tigers continued to press forward to seal the 64-49 victory.

Tyler Manning led the Tigers in scoring with 16 points, followed by Dallas Grace with 15 points, Zack Billenstein with 11 points, Trey McPherson with nine points, Shawn Kemp with five points, Mic Wise with four points, and Brantley Russell with two points.

MCHS @ Sycamore


The MCHS Basketball teams traveled to Sycamore on Friday, February 4th for their second meeting with the War Eagles.
The Tigerettes improved to 20-2 after slipping past Sycamore (14-10) in the first half of the game, and eventually claiming a 74-71 victory by the final buzzer.


Kelsey Gregory led Macon County to victory with 20 points, followed by Katelyn Bean with 18 points, Kailyn Brooks with 14 points, Haley Harris with 13 points, Katie Reid with five points, and Terra Pryor and Katie Beth Meador with two points each.


The MCHS Tigers dropped to 16-8 after a nine-point defeat from Sycamore, 72-63.


Dallas Grace led the Tigers with 18 points, followed by Tyler Manning with 17, Trey McPherson 10, Brantley Russell 7, Shawn Kemp 6, Zack Billenstein 3, and Mic Wise 2.

MCHS Defeats Goodpasture

On January 28, MCHS traveled to Goodpasture Christian for a District 9AA  challenge and the Tigerettes won by a final score of 59-48, and Tigers won by a final score of 70-44.


Katie Reid led the Tigerettes with 25 points, followed by Kelsey Gregory with 15 , Katelyn Bean six, Kailyn Brooks five, and Haley Harris and Terra Pryor with four points each.


Tyler Manning led the Tigers with 22 points, followed by Dallas Grace with 14, Trey McPherson and Zack Billenstein eight each, Andrew Kempf and Mic Wise six each, and Tyler Clark, Shawn Kemp, and Justin Tucker with two points each.
