Roger Langford was a prep basketball star at RBS High School, graduating in 1962. He lettered three years and was named to several “All” tournament teams. He was 7th in the mid-state in scoring his senior year and was described by his coach as the “go-to” man and leader of his team.
Rickey Spivey is a 1988 graduate of Red Boiling Springs and excelled in basketball. He was recognized with many honors throughout his career and scored 1,686 career points as a Bulldog. He went on to play at Aquinas and Samford University in college. Rickey coached basketball from 1992 – 2005 before entering into business.
Joyce Hagan Swindle finished Macon County High School in 1969 and was a prep star in basketball. She was a three year starter at forward (back when women played 3 players on each end of the floor) and scored 1,550 career points. Joyce was named All-Mid State Honorable Mention her junior and senior years.
Tonya Doss Wells graduated from MCHS in 1987 and excelled in basketball for the Tigerettes. She was selected to numerous “All” teams and was 2nd in the Mid-State in scoring her senior year. She went on to play for Lambuth University, starting three years. She has coached youth basketball, softball, and high school softball and basketball. She is also a previous club champion at the Macon County Golf Course.
Ophie White graduated from MCHS in 1954 and was a stand-out in football. He received many honors and recognitions during his career, being named all-conference and all-mid-state multiple times. He signed a scholarship to play football with the Georgia Bulldogs, playing one year before leaving and eventually joining the army. He played football while in the army in 1956 and 1957 as well.
The members of Prock Brothers Softball were also honored. During the late ‘70s this slow pitch softball team was one of the most dominate in the area. The team captured the ASA Class B State Championship in 1979 after finishing 3rd the previous year. Many of the team members are still in the area today and many were at the banquet.
