On Friday night, December 2nd the Macon County Tigers traveled to Gallatin to take on the Green Wave.
Macon County jumped out to an early lead. The Tigers led from the opening tip and at the end of the first period it looked as if they would have no trouble handling Gallatin. Score was MC 11 GHS 7. However, three point shooting from Gallatin brought them back into the game and at the half MCHS trailed 26-27.
Macon tried to apply the pressure to break the game open in the third period. There was a lot of rough play and the Tigers found themselves in the bonus early in the second half. Free throws would turn out to be important in the contest, as Macon converted six of eight points at the charity stripe in the last period.
The game hung in the balance until the final minutes. With less than two minutes in the game Gallatin had a chance to take the lead. However, the Tigers held strong and had the ball under the Green Wave bench with :12 to go and a two point lead. Gallatin wouldn’t quit as they forced a turnover and converted a long shot to tie the game at 52 with :1.9 seconds remaining. Following a time-out by Coach Welch, Grace was the trigger man and Manning was once again the receiver. Manning caught the three quarter court throw, took two dribbles and let it fly! The NBA three-point shot sealed the win with a final score of 55-52.
Scoring for the Tigers was: Tyler Manning 12, Andrew Kempf 1, Trey McPherson 11, Dallas Grace 15, Brantley Russell 7, and Tyler Clark 7. Dalton Shrum, Aaron Carter, and Dillon McCormick all played but did not score. Tigers were 16 of 31 from the free throw line.
