Last Saturday night the Westmoreland Lady eagles made the short trip over to Red Boiling Springs to take on the Lady Bulldogs having suffered a loss the previous night to the Lady Tigerettes and the Lady Bulldogs had high hopes of pulling off the upset.
So much for that thinking went out the door as the Lady Eagles would jump out to a first quarter lead of 12-5 and never looked back defeating the Lady Bulldogs 54-31.
The Lady Eagles had the hot hand knocking down five three-point baskets in the first half and led at half-time 30-8. The Lady Bulldogs would have only 2 players dent the scoreboard in the first half as Katie Hix scored 5 points and Morgan Burgener 3 points. The Lady Bulldogs had only one field goal in the first half.
The poor shooting for the Lady Bulldogs would continue in the third quarter as Westmoreland's defense held Red Boiling Springs to only field goal. Most of the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs was coming from the free throw line as they went 21 out of 32 for the entire game. Red Boiling Springs would score 18 points in the fourth quarter and Morgan Burgener would score 11 of those. The Lady Bulldogs just never got untracked in this game and much of that was caused by the Lady Eagles swarming defense. Simply put, this was a game that Westmoreland had the upper hand and never let the Lady Bulldogs in this game.
Lady Bulldog Coach Larry White was still upbeat after this game because the Lady Bulldogs next three games are at home and Coach White said The Lady Bulldogs have a chance to win those games if they can start playing better. Next up is Watertown tonight Jan. 24th with game time at 6 p.m.
Lady Bulldog scoring: Morgan Burgener -19 points, Katie Hix -7 points, Kalisha Lynch - 4 points and Mckenzie Sadler 1 point.
