The MCHS Baseball team was able to get five games in this week despite problems with the cold-wet spring we have been having.
Macon played a make-up game with RBS, two games with Greenbrier, and two games with Smith County rounded out the week.
On Monday April 1st Macon County hosted Red Boiling Springs in a make-up game from March 18th. Austin Craighead went the distance for the Tigers getting the win. Ryan Craighead went 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs. Brince Crouch was the pitcher of record for the Bulldogs. The game was called after five innings with the score MCHS 13 RBS 0.
On Tuesday April 2nd MCHS hosted the Greenbrier Bobcats. Dalton Shrum once again took the mound for the Tigers and absorbed his 4th loss of the season, despite only giving up one earned run in those 4 games. Once again, errors plague the Macon effort as they commit five in this game and lose to Greenbrier by a final score of 1-5. When you consistently make more errors in a ballgame than you have hits, you will not win many against quality teams.
On Wednesday April 3rd the Tigers traveled to Greenbrier. Despite making 2 more errors in the contest, the Tigers have some timely hitting and get a victory in extra innings. Austin Craighead goes 2 for 4 with one RBI and also gets credit for the win. Southpaw Johnny Brown also gets a save for Macon.
MCHS traveled to Carthage on Friday the 5th to take on Smith County. Finally it seems that the bats for the Tigers woke up. Austin Taft goes 3 for 5, Shane Hesson goes 3 for 4 scoring three runs, and Ryan Craighead goes 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs as MCHS defeats the Owls by a score of 11-0. Larkin Whittmore pitches the shut-out, going the distance and giving up only one hit.
Smith County came to Lafayette on Saturday the 6th for the return match. Johnny Brown gets credit for the Macon win and Jacob McClard collects the save. Tyler Kemp goes 2 for 3 and Taft gets 2 RBIs in a game Macon led from the beginning. The Tigers only commit one error and outscore the Owls, winning by a final score of 4-1.
The Tigers are scheduled to travel to Sycamore on Tuesday the 9th and will play Trousdale County on Friday night the 12th.
