This week Macon County Basketball lost ground in TSSAA District 8AA. The Tigers and the Tigerettes dropped games at Smith County on Tuesday and at home against Livingston Academy on Friday. They also traveled to Clay County on Jan 18th.
Macon traveled to Carthage on Jan 13th. The Tigerettes played a decent first quarter and trailed 15-19. Lady Owl guard Callie Hackett put up 13 of her 38 points in the second quarter and at the half Macon trailed 32-42. The Tigerettes cut the lead to 6 at the end of the third quarter. However the Lady Owls simply had an answer for anything the Tigerettes could throw at them. Final score Macon 69 Smith Co 77.
Scoring was: Paige Clark 16, Briley Driver 12, Leah Anderson 11, Lyndsey Belton 28, and Kyndall Bullington 2. Reese Shrum, Kassidy Brooks, Marisa Owens, and Luci Allen all played but did not score.
The Tigers came out to play, but forgot to protect the basketball. Too many turnovers left Macon in the hole at the half 32-37. Despite cutting the deficit to 46-49 to begin the 4th quarter, more turnovers left them short. Final Tigers 60 Owls 67.
Scoring was: Seth Carlisle 17, Michael Ashburn 14, Evan Perrigo 8, Matt Austin 3, Trace McPherson 9, Tyler Carlisle 5, and Alex Hill 4. Clay Carnahan and Heston King played but did not score.
The Lady Wildcats came to Nera White Gymnasium in 1st place in 8AA, having lost only once in district play this season. Both teams had an abysmal start but the Tigerettes trailed 12-16 at the half. In the 3rd quarter, all five starters scored and seemed in rhythm as they took a 28-25 lead to start the 4th. Macon had a 4 point lead and the ball with 1:50 to go and a 1 point lead and the ball with 0:32 to go and couldn’t get it done. Livingston forces overtime and gets a win on a night that they should have been beaten. Final score Macon 48 Livingston 54.
Scoring was: Clark 6, Shrum 10, Driver 5, Anderson 13, Belton 11, and Brooks 5. Owens played but did not score.
Fans that didn’t see the Tiger multiple overtime win in Livingston in December were hoping for a repeat. That was not to be. The Tigers came out and spotted the Wildcats a 13 point lead and simply never could climb back out of the hole. With way to many turnovers and poor rebounding, Macon never could threaten for the win. Game was not as close as the score might indicate. Final score Macon 50 Livingston Academy 58.
Scoring was: S. Carlisle 7, Ashburn 11, Perrigo 15, Austin 6, McPherson 3, and T. Carlisle 8. Hill and Carnahan played but did not score.
On Saturday Jan 17th Macon traveled to Clay County. The girls rebounded by grabbing a 49-41 win while the boys lost to a good Bulldog squad 46-61.
