The Macon County Tiger baseball team is in high gear in their 2016 season.This week they split their four games against Livingston, Westmoreland, and White House.
Due to bad weather the Tigers had to cancel their home game with Livingston and reschedule a double header with the Wildcats on Apr 12th in Livingston. In the first game Logan Thompson got the start and went 5 innings giving up 6 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits for the no decision. Clay Carnahan pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief and gave up only one hit but it was the game winner in extra innings. Carnahan and Michael Ashburn both went 2 for 5 and scored 2 runs each while Trent Boles went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Livingston gets a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to win 7-6 in the opener. The Tigers committed 4 errors on defense.
Following that heartbreak, the Tigers were out for a little revenge. Carnahan went 1 for 2 with an RBI and Aaron Colter went 1 for 3 with an RBI and scored one run as the Tigers pick up a 3-2 win. Bryson Smith went the distance pitching 5 innings and scattering 5 hits, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) and had 6 strike-outs.
Westmoreland came to town on Thursday Apr 14th for a non-conference game. Michael Ashburn went the distance on the mound throwing 7 scoreless innings and scattering 4 hits while recording 13 strikeouts. Tyler Gann and Boles went 1 for 3 and each scored a run. Colter had two hits and an RBI while Ashburn went 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored. Tigers get the victory by a final score of 4-0.
The Tigers traveled to White House to face the Blue Devils on Apr 15th. The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead only to give up 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. White House would plate one in the 3rd and 3 in the 4th before Macon would score 3 in the 5th. The Blue Devils get a 6-5 victory in a game which saw the Tigers once again commit 4 errors in the ballgame. Ashburn went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored while Carnahan went 1 for 3 win an RBI and 2 runs scored. Austin Herbert started the game and went 3 innings giving up 4 hits and 3 earned runs. Logan Thompson threw one inning and gave up 3 runs on 2 hits while Carnahan tossed 2 innings without giving up a hit or a run.
This week the Tigers are scheduled to play at DeKalb County on the 18th, host DeKalb on the 19th, travel to White House Heritage on the 21st, and host Portland on the 22nd.
