This week the Tigerettes would drop their first two games while the Tigers remain undefeated.

Macon hosted Livingston on Dec 6th and played at Smith County on the 9th and at Westmoreland on the 10th.

Macon County hosted Livingston Academy on Dec 6th. Many pick the Lady Wildcats to finish in one of the top two spots in 8AA this season. However they had one of their senior leaders out with an injury. The Tigerettes played an OK 1st quarter and trailed 13-14. However they went 0 for 9 from the field (o for 6 from behind the arc) and their swarming defense is the only thing that kept them in the game in the 2nd period. At the break Livingston led 23-17. That defense showed up in the 3rd as Macon forced Livingston to play up-tempo and the Tigerettes jumped out to a 39-28 lead heading into the final period thanks to a huge quarter from Mattie Goolsby. LA went on a 9-0 run to open the quarter and had it tied 42 all with about two and a half minutes to go. Defense and turnovers were the difference down the stretch as the Tigerettes are able to get their second district win by a final score of 52-47.

Scoring was: Keeley Carter 13, Jamie Ashburn 2, Jenna Russell 10, Kyndal Bullington 9, Mattie Goolsby 15, McKaylee Mix 1, and Morgan Carter 2. Luci Allen played but did not score.

The game between Macon and Livinston’s boys tends to always be a close one no matter where it is played. That would not be the case on this night. The Tigers jumped out to a lead after the first bucket and never looked back. The game could have been a little more one sided had the Tigers settled for some higher percentage baskets as they shot 19 of 30 from inside the arc and 5 of 17 behind it. They also had a number of forced turnovers against the Wildcats they did not capitalize on. In a blowout the final score was Macon 60 Livingston 36.

Scoring was: Seth Carlisle 17, Michael Ashburn 9, Riley Phillips 8, Dalton Marsh 6, Cameron Welch 6, Kendrick Carter 5, Trent Cook 4, Heston King 3, and Matt “Sticks” Young 2. Cole Carnahan, Kelton Ballou, Spencer Hogan, and Clay West all played but did not score.

Next up an always tough game at Smith County. The Tigerettes held a 4 point lead midway thru the 3rd but never could clear the final hurdle. The lady Owls wind up making 10 of 11 free throws down the stretch to preserve their 49-40 win.

Scoring was: Keeley Carter 21, Russell 3, Bullington 9, Goolsby 4, and Mix 3. Ashburn and Morgan Carter played but did not score.

The boys game against Smith started terribly as the Tigers opened the game shooting 0 of 11. They finished the half shooting 14 of 20 and took a lead they would never give up. They cruised to another 8AA win by a final score of 81-67.

Scoring was: Ashburn 26, Carlisle 22, Phillkips 17, Welch 6, Carter 5, Carnahan 3, and Marsh 2. King played but didn’t score.

Stats were unavailable for the Westmoreland game but the Tigerettes lost by a final of 30-44 and the Tigers won again 67-39.

This week Macon County will travel to Central Magnet on Dec 13th before hosting a really good Clay County team on Dec 16th.
