Dewey Donald Smalling, of Lafayette, died at the age of 92 on Friday, March 14, 2008 at The Palace Care & Rehab.
Funeral services for Dewey Donald Smalling were conducted from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, March 16, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Elder Jackie Wakefield and Elder DeWayne Gregory officiating. Corey Halliburton, Troy Smalling, Lee Smalling, Jason Smalling, Andrew Lewis, and Jeff Lambert served as pallbearers. Burial followed in Pony McDonald Cemetery.
Born in Macon County, Tenn., on Friday, July 23, 1915, Dewey Donald Smalling was one of four siblings born to the late Genie and Ellie (McDonald) Smalling. He married his first wife, the former Wilma Lee Swindle, and his second wife, the former Hontas Stubblefield, who both preceded him in death. Besides his wives and parents, daughter, Jeanette Wood, grandchild, Timothy Vaughn, brother, L.D. Smalling, half brother, Paul Patterson, and sister, Margaret Miller preceded him in death.
He was self-employed, working in floor finishing; he was a veteran of the Army, serving in World War II and a member of the Sycamore Valley Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by; sons, Rabon (Reba) Smalling of Old Hickory Tenn., Donald (Eunice) Smalling of White House of Tenn., daughter, Penne (James) West of Lafayette, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
