Erma Dell Carter, 95

Erma Dell Carter, of Lafayette, died at the age of 95 on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at The Palace Care & Rehab.

Emma Dell CarterFuneral services for Erma Dell Carter were conducted from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 11 a.m. with Elder J.E. Shoulders and Elder Tom Carter officiating.  Dr. Hanna Ilia and her nephews served as honorary pallbearers.  Josh Meador, Jeff Regan, Shannon Carter, Benny Meador, Gary Brewster, Ricky Fleming, Ethan Brewster, and Richard Sanders served as active pallbearers. Burial followed in the Enon Cemetery.

Born Erma Dell Blankenship in Macon County, Tenn., on Thursday, October 17, 1912, one of four siblings to the late Asa and Nettie (Jones) Blankenship.  She was married on December 21, 1931 to Thomas Mitchell Carter, who preceded her in death on September 7, 1971.  Besides her husband and parents, one son, Gerald “Jamup” Carter, two brothers, Jim and O.D. Blankenship, and one sister, Amie Carter preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker and a mother of four children.  She loved to work in her garden and farm with her husband, but lost him in a tractor accident in 1971.  She loved to quilt, embroider and cook for her family.  She was of the Missionary Baptist belief and was saved at the Enon Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by; sons, Stephen (Jean) Carter, Mitchell (Donna) Carter, daughter, Cuma (Elder J.E.) Shoulders all of Lafayette, 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren.
