Maizelle Dixon, 88

Mrs. Maizelle Dixon of the Smith Bend Community died at the age of 88 at 12:15 a.m. Friday morning, March 14, 2008 at the Cumberland River Hospital in Celina following an extended illness.

Funeral services from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted by Edward L. Anderson on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Burial followed in the Gene Butler Cemetery in Brooks Bend.
The daughter of the late Robert Botts and Dexter Draper McCue, she was born Gracie Maizelle McCue on October 22, 1919 in the Wartrace Community of Jackson County.

In Octobre of 1946 she was united in marriage to former Smith County educator and longtime Defeated Creek Elementary principal, James Thomas (J.T.) Dixon.

Mr. Dixon often said of Mrs. Maizelle that she was an excellent wife and mother, an equal to him and that “she always pulled her side of the wagon well”.

Mr. Dixon preceded Mrs. Dixon in death on February 2, 1984. Mrs. Dixon was an early woman in the workforce having worked first at Dupont in Old Hickory and for Washington Manufacturing Co. and retired from Heavy Duty in Gainesboro. She was a member of the Bagdad Church of Christ.
Surviving are two children, Margaret Wilson of Mebane, N.C., Zander Dixon and wife Linda of Red Boiling Springs; two grandchildren, Angela Lynn Dixon of Nashville and James Eric Dixon of Hendersonville.
