James Lewis “Jimmy” Stewart, of Lafayette, died at the age of 86, Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the Macon County General Hospital.

Funeral services for James Lewis “Jimmy” Stewart were conducted from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 11 a.m. with E. C. Meadows officiating.  Thomas Stewart, Shayn Stewart, Willis “Jabo” Stewart, John Gross, Kali Stewart, Summyr Stewart, and Steve Moss served as pallbearers.  Burial followed in the Underwood Cemetery.

James Lewis Stewart was born in Cochran, Georgia, on April 5, 1921, one of four siblings born to the late Thomas Watson and Magdeline Carolyn (Anderson) Stewart.  He was married to the former Melvina Locke on January 25, 1948, who survives and lives in Lafayette. Besides his parents, two infant siblings preceded him in death.  He worked as an equipment operator in the road construction industry and served his Country in the Navy during WWII.

Besides his wife of 60 year, he is survived by, a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas (Lindanne) Stewart of Washington State, grandchildren, Shayn Stewart of Lafayette, Kali Stewart of Idaho, and Summyr Stewart of Colorado, brother, Willis “Jabo” Stewart of Fla., and his first wife, Shellan Stewart of Idaho, and one great-grandchild.
