Charles Lawrence Goad, 65

Charles Lawrence Goad was born October 17, 1942 in Macon County Tenn., the fifth child of Carmon Carsley and Lela Gertrude McClard Goad.

Charles GoadCharles was born, lived, and died on the farm that he loved so much.  During his life, Charles was a God fearing man that loved God, his family and farm.  He also thought a lot of his customers that made up his business, Goad Seed Company. He began the Seed and Fertilizer Company in 1977 and then added a Case knife dealership in 2003.  He always said he was a farmer through and through and he knew what it took to raise a crop, so who better to sell to a farmer, than a fellow farmer.  He never tried to push anything on anyone, he would tell you the facts and options, but the customer made the final decision on what to use on his farm. Charles was not only a businessman but was a friend as well.  All along the way he tried to help everybody.  His word and handshake was his bond.

As a boy growing up in the 40’s and 50’s, he loved pocket knives, but extra money during that time for knives was unheard of, so after he settled in his later life he decided to add a Knife dealership to his company.  So the Goad’s Knifeworks was established in 2003.  He really loved trading and collecting them, it was such a wonderful hobby for him, and loved talking about them to anyone who shared his same interest for the knives.

Charles was saved as a young boy and united with Sunrise Missionary Baptist Church. On April 2, 1961 Charles was baptized into Church fellowship. He met his future bride while still in Macon County High School, and on August 1, 1963, Mary Christine Wheeler became his wife and life long companion.  They were married for over 44 years.

Charles and Christine, or as they are known (Cowpa and Grandma) were blessed with 2 children: Tina (Ricky) Short and Lawrence (Mary) Goad both of Lafayette, Tenn.

Besides his wife and children, Charles is survived by: 4 grandchildren: Angel (David) Slayton of Westmoreland, Tenn., Tyler (MariAnna) Goad of Charolette, Tenn., James Kennedy of Hermitage, Tenn. and Tina Weaver of Gallatin, Tenn., 4 great grandsons, Skyler and Charles Goad, Dallas Slayton, and Brett Kennedy, 2 sister, Carmolene (Willard) Phillips and Barbara (Doug) Gregory both of Lafayette, Tenn., 4 brothers, Lealon (Hazel) Goad of Franklin, Ind., Ray (Peggy) Goad, Jimmy (Becky) Goad both of Lafayette, Tenn. and Shirley Goad of Red Boiling Springs, Tenn.
