William Edward Whittemore, 62
William Edward Whittemore, age 62 of 217 Strawberry St., Portland, Tenn. passed away at his residence at 10:40 p.m., Tuesday night, June 10, 2008 from complications of a stroke that occurred May 15 of this year. He was a self-employed yard maintenance man and was well known and liked by all.
He was the first child of the late Cleon Wilson “Ted” and Josie Esmar Farley Whittemore and arrived on October 16, 1945 in Macon County, Tenn. He was the grandson of the late William Henry “Will” and Amanda Maude Slayton Farley and the late Edward Wilson “Eddie/Ed” and Louise Eller Hudson Whittemore all of Macon County, Tenn.
Besides his parents and grandparents he was preceded in death by his son, Edward Wilson Whittemore (Sept. 25,1965-Nov. 12, 2006) and brothers, James Carlean Whittemore (Apr. 25, 1957-Oct. 26, 2006) Ray Dean Whittemore (b&d May 5, 1957) and John Mark Whittemore (b&d Apr. 10, 1961).
Mr. Whittemore is survived by his wife, Patricia Hodges Whittemore and two other children by his first wife the former Rosemary Imalay. His children Mary (Jimmie) Choate and Robert (Paula) Whittemore of Portland; five grandchildren, Timmy & Nathan Choate, Emily Whittemore Scott, Rachel Whittemore and Travis Whittemroe; four great-grandchildren; Josh and Trevor Choate, Michelle Scott and Sean Patrick Whittemore, six sisters; Emmer Jewell (Micheal) Dillehay of Portland, Peggy Ann (Roy) West of Indianapolis, Ind., Lillie Mae (Mark) Berrry of Indianapolis, Ind., Brenda (Timmy) Harper of Hartsville, Tenn., Melissa (David) Harper of Hartsville, Tenn., Susan (Michael) Smith of Russellville, Ky.; one brother, Forrest Dean (Rose Knight) Whittemore of Mitchelville, Tenn.; an aunt Maudie Jewell Sanders of Lafayette, Tenn.
Funeral services were conducted June 14, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home chapel of Wilkinson & Wiseman in Portland, Tenn. with Bro. Ed Ferrell officiating. Pallbearers were Timmy Choate, Nathan Choate, Travis Whittemore, Micheal Dillahay, Jason Whittemore, and Johnny Whittemore with interment at the Cold Springs Cemetery in Macon County, Tenn.
