Herbert Carrol Wheeley, 80
Herbert Carrol Wheeley age 80, of Lafayette, Tenn., passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2008. Funeral services for Herbert Carrol Wheeley were conducted Friday, July 11, 2008 at 11 a.m. from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Jason Wheeley officiating.
John Wheeley, H.L. Doc Goodall, Stanley Davis, and Ben Wheeley served as honorary pallbearers. Ferrell Meador, Jimmy Wheeley, Randy Wheeley, Tim Qualls, Steve Wheeley, and Corey Newberry served as active pallbearers. Burial followed in the Haysville Cemetery.
Herbert Carrol Wheeley was born on Friday, May 18, 1928 in Macon County, Tenn., born one of seven siblings to the late John Henry and Georgia Jenkins Wheeley. Carrol married the former Jo Ann Bringle on November 5, 1988, sharing nineteen years together, she survives. Besides his parents, brothers, Tom Wheeley, Leslie Wheeley, Huel Wheeley, sisters, Irene Wheeley, and Myrtie Meador, preceded him in death.
Carrol had been a central office technician for North Central Telephone Cooperation, where he retired after nineteen years of service; had worked in the 1960’s for Alexander Funeral Home as a funeral assistant. He enjoyed University of Tennessee football, working in his garden in his spare time, and was a member of the Macon County Golf Club, Cattleman’s Club, and attended the Long Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by; daughters, Marilyn Wheeley, and Mary (Tim) Qualls all of Lafayette, Tenn., brother, Otto (Kathleen) Wheeley of Crossville, Tenn., grandchildren, Heather Rollin, Keith Newberry, and Corey Newberry, great-grandchild, Caleb Newberry, several nieces and nephews.
