Alice Elizabeth Hire, age 96, of Lafayette, Tenn., passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Knollwood Manor. Funeral services for Alice Elizabeth Hire were conducted Sunday, July 20, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Billy Joe Shoulders and Elder Dean Dyer officiating.
Wayne Meador, Glenn Cothron, Leon Fuqua, Harold Harper, Earl Ford, and W. M. Sanders served as honorary pallbearers. Stanley Johnson, Bill Jones, Matt Looper, Jerry Hensley, Mike Smith, Dearld Waddle, and Mike Carr served as active pallbearers. Burial followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens.
Alice Hire was born on Tuesday, August 22, 1911, in Macon County, Tenn. She was born one of four siblings to the late Johnnie Calvin and Matilda Cathrine Fuqua Ford. She was married to C. R. Hire on November 14, 1969, who preceded her in death on March 6, 1990. Besides her husband and parents; brother, Ethel Ray “Bill” Ford, sisters, Effie Price, and Audrey Walton preceded her in death.
Alice worked as a School Teacher for the Macon County Board of Education. She was also an accountant for York Hardware and a member of the Long Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by: friend, Comaleta Looper of Lafayette, Tenn., niece, Cathrine (Dearld) Waddle of Lebanon, Tenn., great nephews, Grant (Rita) Hensley, Jerry (Teresa) Hensley, Mike (Gwen) Smith, great niece, Regina (Mike) Carr, and other relatives and friends.
