Buford Lee Smith, 88

Mr. Buford Lee Smith, 88, of Moss, Tenn. passed away Friday, September 5, 2008 at Monroe Health and Rehab Center, Tompkinsville, Monroe County, Ky.

Mr. Smith was born in Clay County, Tenn. on February 23, 1923, the son of the late Allen and Eva (Guffey) Smith. He married the late Opal Alline Moore on December 23, 1943 in Clay Co., Tenn. where they made their home for 63 years. Mr. Smith was saved by grace thru faith on July 1948 and was baptized in September 1949 where he joined Freedom No. #2 Missionary Baptist Church. He was an ordained Decon from January 29, 1967 until his passing away. He was a member of the Maeshack Missionary Baptist Church at the time of his death.

He worked as a Farmer/Logger. His hobbies in life had been coon hunting, and fishing.

Mr. Smith is survived by five daughters, Virginia & (Eugene) Barrett of Murfreesboro, Tenn. Emma & (Jr. B) Strong of Moss, Tenn., Eva & (Odell) Moore of Moss, Tenn., Nora & (Jimmy) White of Tompkinsville, Ky., Diana & (Steven) Taylor of Glasgow, Ky.; four sons Cornell Smith of Moss, Tenn., Cotton & (Wanda) Smith of Moss, Tenn., Kent & (Susie) Smith of Moss, Tenn., Larry & (Gail) Smith of Celina, Tenn.

He is also survived by 18 grandchildren: Tammy, Tonya, Angla, Caley, Amy, Kim, Suzette, Shawan, Amanda, David, Sabrina, Anitra, Joshua, Brandi, Eric, Jason, Andy, and Justin; 28 great-grandchildren: Derek, Celina, Brittany, Alisha, Dalton, Devan, Ben, Tanner, Kelsey, Dustee, Gracie, Levi, Gus, Tucker, Joshlyn, Katelyn, James, Lea-Anna, Brooklyn, John Victoria, Samuel, Madlyn, Sawyer, Caley Jr., and Jaylyn, Lillie, Grace Alline; 8 step-grandchildren, 19 step-great-grandchildren, 4 step-great-great-grandchildren: Jaysee and Allison, Jacob and Matthew Copeland. Mr. Smith is also survived by four sisters, Anna May Rich of Moss, Tenn., Delcia Arnnett of Tompkinsville, Ky., Jospehine & (Billy) Smith of Red Boiling Springs, Tenn., Dovie Netherton of Missouri; two brothers, Johnny Smith of Moss, Tenn. andd Bazz Smith of Tompkinsville, Ky.

He was preceded in death by two grandsons: Clinton and John; great-grandson, Tyler Anderson; two Sisters: Zelma and Elsie Trobaugh;

two brothers: Cecel and Turner Smith

Funeral service were conducted at Hall Funeral Home, LLC, Celina, Tenn., at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 8, with Jerry Swindle and Mark Horten officiating. Interment followed at Moore Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Smith, Joshua Smith, Jason Smith, Justin Smith, Andy Smith, Caley Strong, Eric Strong. Honorary Pallbearers were Angie White, Freddie White, Rev. Martin Ballard, Dr. Tony Carter, Denton (Shorty) White, Lect Moore, Billy Jean Smith, Eddie Smith, Derrick Sloan, and Stacey Spivey.
