Mary Holland, 92
Mrs. Mary Holland, a homemaker of the Bagdad Community of Jackson Co., died at 9 p.m. Sunday evening, September 21, 2008 at the age of 92 a Smith County Health Care Center in Carthage where she had made her home since October 18, 2004.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning, September 24 at 11 a.m. from the Smith Memorial United Methodist Church. Her pastor, Bro. Jeff Burton, officiated and burial followed in the Gene Butler Cemetery.
Born Mary Duffy Butler in the Smith Bend Community of December 19, 1915, she was one of four children and the last surviving of the late James William and Be Ella Huffines Butler.
Siblings preceding Mrs. Holland in death were Lillie May Lovelady, M.F. Butler, and Will John Butler.
Mrs. Holland’s first husband, Nolan Howell and the father of her son, died in 1957 at the age of 48.
She then married Ira Landon Holland, Sr. of the Bagdad Community and he preceded her in death on April 6, 1986 at the age of 82.
Mrs. Holland was a lifelong member of the Smith Memorial United Methodist Church in Smith Bend.
Surviving is her son, Billie Louis (Bill) Howell and wife Ann; five grandchildren, Madeline, Mary Ann, Susan and William Louis Howell; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Blaucke, Christine Houle all of Harper Woods, Michigan.
