Georgia Nixon Woods, 86

Georgia Nixon Woods, age 86 of Covington, Ga., formerly of Red Boiling Springs passed away Monday, October 13, 2008 at the Newton County Hospital in Newton County, Ga.

Memorial service for Georgia Nixon Woods will be conducted Saturday afternoon, October 18, 2008 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs, Tenn. with Jimmy Cook officiating. Interment will follow in the Smith Chapel Cemetery.  

She was born September 13, 1922 in Macon County, Tenn., the daughter of the late Sam and Lizzie (Moss) Nixon. On November 15, 1938, she married the former Scott Woods, who preceded her in death October 31, 1967. Scott Woods was serving his second term as Mayor of Red Boiling Springs when he passed. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Mack, Cordell, Collie, and Ed Nixon; sisters, Eva Mae Parkes, Annie Knight, and Ruth Bean. Georgia retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Red Boiling Springs September 3, 1987 with 28 years of service.

Survivors include, daughter, Shirley (Grady) Minter of Covington, Ga., sisters, Ella Hackett and Alma Taylor both of Red Boiling Springs and Lilly Tidwell of Nashville, grandchildren, Connie (Bob) Olson of Ashville, N.C. and Grady (Tracey) Minter Jr. of Covington, Ga., great-grandchildren, Amber Woodbury of Ashville, N.C., Ashley Minter, Logan Minter, Nicholas Minter, and Kam Minter all of Covington, Ga., great-great-grandchild, Madison Hix of Ashville, N.C.
