Agnes Lorene Hammer, age 94, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at the Knollwood Manor. The funeral service for Agnes Lorene Hammer was conducted Friday, October 17, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Ricky Wilson officiating.
Ray Goad, Terry Goad, Ray Hammer, David Powell, Larry Tucker, and Raybon King served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens. Agnes Lorene Hammer was born on Monday, July 20, 1914 in Smith County, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late Lash and Hettie (Gilespie) Henry. On August 5, 1936, she was married to Harry Louie Hammer sharing forty-three years together; he preceded her in death on February 13, 1980. Together they raised one son and one daughter. Besides her husband and parents; daughter, Lula “Tudor” Ferguson preceded her in death. Agnes was a housewife and farmer, who enjoyed being out in the tobacco fields and gardens, working hard, and though she was handicapped, it never slowed her down. She liked to crochet, quilt, and spend time with her family. She was a resident of Knollwood Manor for sometime; where she was always ready to participate in events that were going on, or would socialize with her friends. She was a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and an inspiration to her family and friends. She leaves behind to mourn her passing; son, Guthrie and wife Mary Hammer of Lafayette, Tenn., grandson, Barry and wife Kay Hammer, great-grandsons, Bryce and Braden Hammer all of Lebanon, Tenn., and sister, Neva Miller of Enterprise, Ala.
