James Newell Rainey, Sr., 86

Mr. James Newell Rainey Sr. of Pleasant Shade was pronounced dead on arrival at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, October 15, 2008 at the Macon County General Hospital of injuries received in a single vehicle accident in rural Macon County near the Union Camp Road and Sycamore Valley Road intersection. He was 86.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon October 18 from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home with Eld. Billy Joe Shoulders and Eld. Terry Austin officiating. Following the 1 p.m. services burial was in the Patterson Cemetery at Russell Hill.

The last surviving, he was one of twelve children of the late Walter Allen and Sarah Emmaline Green Rainey and was born September 4, 1922 in the Fairview Community of Williamson County.

Siblings preceding him in death were Savannah Haskins, Eva Fisher, Lear Jenkins, Martha Capley, Bessie White, Dora Alice Gordon, Theola Durham, William “Billy” Rainey, Ottoa, Jim and Roy Rainey.

On June 20, 1946 he was united in marriage to the former Celie Olene Vinson, the daughter of the late Harrison and Goldie Vinson of Pleasant Shade.

They were preceded in death by their son-in-law, Clarence B. White who died June 14, 2006.

Mr. Rainey was baptized in July of 1982 into the fellowship of the Russell Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a faithful and dedicated member until death.

He retired in January of 1988 following a long career with the Ford Glass Plant in Nashville.

Surviving in addition to his wife of over sixty-two years is a daughter, Anna Ruth Rainey White of Port Charlotte, Fla.; son J.N. Rainey Jr. and wife Lesa of Russell Hill; four grandchildren, Terry Keith White of Brentwood, Kelly Ryan White of Ft. Myers, Fla., Amber Rainey of Cookeville, Emmaline Rainey of Russell Hill; three great-grandchildren.
