Edward Alvin Barber, age 77

  Edward Alvin Barber, age 77, passed away Fri., Dec. 12, 2008, at Sumner Regional Medical Center. Funeral service for Edward Alvin Barber were conducted Sun., Dec. 14, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jerry Gammon and Elder Cary Kemp officiating.

Members of VFW Post 7135 served as honorary pallbearers. Steve Morgan, Jerry Merryman, Joe Barber, Jason Goodman, Bobby Gammon, and Gene Holland served as active pallbearers. Edward Alvin Barber was born on, Oct. 1, 1931, in Hancock County, WV. He was the son of the late Earless Atlas and Delia Susan Holland Barber. He married the former Margrette Christine York, raising two daughters and one son, she preceded him in death. Besides his wife and parents; his brother Glenn Barber and an infant brother, also preceded him in death. Ed retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation. He was presently working for Gene Holland Construction. Ed was a Veteran serving in the Army during the Korean War. He served as Post Commander and Post Quartermaster for the VFW Department of Tennessee. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the American Legion and a member of Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He leaves to mourn his passing, son, Mark E. Barber of Bowling Green, KY; daughters, Cheryl Lane Oldham of Lafayette, Tenn.; Greta Lynn (Jerry) Merryman of Lebanon, Tenn.; brothers, Jackie E. Barber of Lafayette, Tenn.; Carl Thomas Barber of Bowling Green, KY; Grandchildren, Jason (Julie) Goodman, Melanie (Shayne) Ellis, Devon (Jay) Green, Drew Oldham and nine great-grandchildren.
