Melburn Cothron, 69
Melburn Cothron, age 69, passed away Mon., Jan. 5, 2009, at the Trousdale Medical Center. Funeral services for Melburn Cothron were conducted Fri., Jan. 9, 2009 from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Ricky White and Elder Eddie Gregory officiating.
Shelvy Linville, Tony Cothron, Kenny Cothron, Mike Cothron, Waylon Cothron, Timmy Roark, and Randy Souls served as pallbearers. Melburn Cothron was born on, Feb. 24, 1939, in Macon County, Tenn. He was the son of the late Audie Efford and Effie Bula McClard Cothron. He married the former Mary Levy Driver on June 3, 1960, sharing three children and forty-eight years together, Mary survives. Besides his parents; sister, Loretta Souls, also preceded him in death. Melburn had worked for Dupont in Old Hickory, Tenn., where he retired in 2002. Before going to work for Dupont, he had driven a truck for Central Transport in Mt. Juliet, Tenn., for 10 years. He had farmed his whole life, but in the mid 90’s he began to farm on a larger scale, raising several acres of tobacco. He had a passion for pulling tractors in shows with his sons, and working on tractors. He was the county commissioner for the 15th District and had been a member of the Hillsdale Masonic Lodge # 664, for 40 years. In years past, Melburn had been a Basketball Referee for eighteen years for the TSSAA Association, and he had been a singer for the Christian Aires Quartet for thirty years. He loved to sing, and he enjoyed leading singing at Meadorvillle Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member. More importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, but above all, he loved to tell the experience he had with the Lord and how the Lord had saved his soul and blessed him so much. He will always be remembered for his jokes, laughs, and smiles, that he generously shared with all who knew and loved him. Besides his wife, he is survived by; sons, Larry (Alica) Cothron of Smyrna, Tenn., Troy (Nicole) Cothron of Lafayette, Tenn., daughter, Connie (Barry) Shrum of Lafayette, Tenn., grandchildren, Cory Christopher Cothron and Clinton Chase Cothron both of Lebanon, Tenn., Larry Matthew Martin of Savannah, GA, Justin Keith Martin and Larry Hanes Cothron JR. both of Smyrna, Tenn., Jadeyn Elise Cothron, Casey Nathaniel Shrum, Mayson Nathaniel Shrum, and Cayden Nathaniel Shrum all of Lafayette, Tenn., Brothers, Audie Lee Cothron of Greenbrier, Tenn., and Morris Cothron of Hartsville, Tenn.
