Pauline Lucille Drury, age 99, of Grants Pass, OR, and formerly of Lafayette, Tenn., passed away Sat., Jan. 17, 2009, at the Highland House Nursing & Rehab Center in Grants Pass, OR. Funeral services for Pauline Lucille Drury were conducted Sat., Jan. 24, 2009 from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with Elder J. E. Shoulders officiating.
J.V. “Bud” Deering, Darrel Harris, John McDole, Jon Meador, Michael Meador, and Leon Fuqua served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Drury Cemetery. Pauline Lucille Drury was born on, Dec. 23, 1909, in Macon County, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late Abraham and Martha Dillard Curtis. She was married to Jesse J. Drury on Oct. 5, 1928, sharing fifty-five years together; Jesse preceded her in death on October 6, 1983. Besides her husband and parents; daughters, Jeanetta Paige Meador, Patsy Carolyn Badger, brother, Booker Curtis, half brothers, Hooper Curtis, Rosco Curtis, Albert Curtis, Willie Buck Curtis, and half sisters, Hester Curtis, and Ruby Hall, also preceded her in death. Pauline worked as a telephone operator in her home for fifteen years and then worked for North Central Telephone Company until retirement. She moved to Grants Pass, OR, with her daughter and son-in-law, after her husband’s death. She was a very active woman loving the outdoors; Pauline could plant anything and get it to grow. She enjoyed taking long walks with her companion, “Muffin”, the family pet, picking wildflowers as she went and filling the house with them. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting in the winter time. She was of the Missionary Baptist belief. Pauline was a devoted mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by; Daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Drury Harris and husband Darrel of Grants Pass, OR, twelve grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.
