Ruby Carr Griggs, 88

Ruby Carr Griggs, age 88, passed away Feb. 27, 2009, at Knollwood Manor in Lafayette, Tenn. Funeral services were conducted Sun., March 1, 2009, from the chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Brother Jerry Watson and Elder Anthony Hale officiating. Brice Gregory, David Eubank, Buddy Fuller, and Wendell Jones served as honorary pallbearers. Terry Hudson, Billy Brooks, Todd Jones, Randy Carr, Gene Carr, Bill Johnson, Barney Wooten, and Ashley Mercer served as active pallbearers. Interment followed in the Drury Cemetery.

Ruby Griggs was born one of six siblings, to the late Jim and “Lizzie” Sarah Elizabeth Bennett Carr on Sept. 17, 1920 in Macon County, Tenn. She was married to William J. R. Griggs; he preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1978. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by; brothers, Adron Carr, James Carr, and Arnett Carr, sisters, Ethel White and Gladys Eubank. Ruby was an employee for Ben Franklin’s 5 & 10 for several years, and then worked for Macon Department Store for thirty years before retiring. Ms. Ruby loved working with the public. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word to say. Her life was her family; taking great pride and joy in what she could do for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Ms. Ruby was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and of the Long Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by, son, Jimmy (Patti) Griggs of Lafayette, Tenn., grandchildren, Troy (Jennifer) Griggs, Tammy Jones and Wayne Hutchison, great-grandchildren, Matt Jones, Mason Jones, Lauren Griggs, Hunter Griggs, and Markus Hutchison, all of Lafayette, Tenn.
