Robert James O’Donoghue, 78
Robert James O’Donoghue, age 78, passed away March 10, 2009, at his home. Funeral services were conducted Sat., March 14, 2009, from the Holy Family Catholic Church, Lafayette, Tenn., with Father Dennis Holly and Father Zacharias Payikat officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were sons; Joseph O’Donoghue, Peter O’Donoghue, Gregory Wilson, and Steven Wilson. Active pallbearers were grandsons: Peter, Nathanael, Robert, Zachary, Joshua, and Anthony. Interment followed in the Underwood Cemetery. Robert James O’Donoghue was born to the late Dr. John B. and Helen Marguerite McGuire O’Donoghue on March 8, 1931. He married Wanda Perdue Wilson on July 25, 1979. Robert served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Iowa State University. He devoted much of his business career to the research and development of methods used to make various processes more proficient and cost effective which culminated in the granting of two patents. His knowledge and expertise also resulted in the publication of position papers. Roberts career included private business ownership of many technological businesses and was involved with many industries. Some of the trade associations he held membership in were: Society of Plastics Engineers, Rubber Manufacturer’s Association, The Wire Association, Porcelain Enamel Institute, American Electroplater’s Association, Metal Finishing Association, Chemical Engineering Association, Specialty Chemical Manufacturer’s Association, American Society for Quality Control, American Management Association, International Council of Shopping Centers, Marble & Tile Institute of America and the National Terrazzo and Mosaic Association. Bob was a very active member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and was a very loving father who cared greatly for his family. His family and faith were what kept him going when living became difficult. Bob is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Wanda; his sons: Joseph O’Donoghue, Dayton, OH; Peter O’Donoghue, Shirley, IN.; Greg (Debbie) Wilson, Lafayette, Tenn.; Steve (Angela) Wilson, Salem, IN.; daughters: Julie (Tom) Walters, Dayton, OH.; Sharon O’Donoghue, Indianapolis, IN.; Mary O’Donoghue, Hutchinson, KS; Katie (Kevin) Ly, Springboro, OH; Joanne (Jeff) Lendaro, Noblesville, IN; twenty-three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers: Dr. John (Francis) O’Donoghue of Palos Park, IL.; Thomas (Marie) O’Donoghue, Prospect Hgts, Il.; sister Helen Ermeling, Lawrence, KS. He is preceded in death by his parents; sons: Robert and Patrick O’Donoghue; brother Edward O’Donoghue; and sisters: Elizabeth Johnson and Nancy Engstrom.
