Donald Cook, 88
Donald Cook, age 88, of Hendersonville, passed away Wed., March 25, 2009. Funeral services were conducted Fri., March 27 from the Hackett Chapel if Sanderson Funeral Home by his brother-in-law, E.C. “Comer” Meadows. Interment followed with military honors in the Campground Cemetery of Wartrace Creek.
Born Donald Lee Cook in the Highland Community of Jackson County on Sept. 9, 1920 he is one of eleven children of the late Will and Flossie Cook. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Dow Cook, Dillard Cook, Alma Cook, Grace Keith, Zephie Witcher, Opal Holland, and Ruby Givens. He is survived by his wife of fifty five years Edith Cook; son, Michael Cook; brothers, Clay (Dolores) Cook of Wartrace Creek Community, Draper (Betty) Cook of Nashville, Joe Cook and friend Billie of Dickson; sister-in-law Edna Meadows of Willette and Ruby Clark of Lafayette. He was married on Sept. 10, 1954 in Carthage to the former Edna Marie Wakefield. Mr. Cook honorably served during World War II with the US Army. He is was inducted at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on Dec. 16, 1942, and was honorably discharged at Camp Atterbury, IL. On Feb. 8, 1946 with the rank of Sergeant. His total overseas service was one year, five months and eleven days. He was of Methodist faith.
