Maburn Earl Dyer, 75
Maburn Earl Dyer, age 75, of Lafayette, Tenn., passed away March 26, 2009. Funeral services were conducted Sun., March 29, 2009 from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Danny Holland, Elder Jimmy Claiborne, and Elder Dean Dyer officiating. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens.
Maburn Earl Dyer was born to the late Leslie Marshall and Mary Jane Roberts Dyer, Sr. on May 10, 1933. He married the former Juanita Smith on December 23, 1953, sharing fifty-five years together and raising a son and two daughters. Besides his parents; daughter, Dee Ann Givens, son-in-law, Mike Willis, brothers, James “Toot” Dyer and Leslie “Tom” Dyer, sisters, Leatha C. Gregory and Mary Louise Eden, also preceded him in death. Maburn was a well respected man in Macon County, who served his community in several ways; through his work, time of volunteering, and his friendship. Maburn worked for North Central Telephone Cooperative for several years as a young man. In 1966, he became Sheriff of Macon County, serving until 1972. He then started the Macon County Ambulance Service in 1972 and continued to work there until 1974 when he was elected Macon County Trustee serving from 1974 until 1986. In 1987, he went back to work for the Macon County Sheriff’s Department serving for several more years. Maburn’s volunteer work consisted of serving as Civil Defense Director and serving on the Lafayette Rescue Squad and the Lafayette Fire Department most all his life. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 543 Free and Accepted Masons in Lafayette, where he had been a member for over thirty years. Maburn was a loving husband, father, and christian man. He cherished the time he shared with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His experience of being saved under a tree when he was thirteen gave him great joy when he told it to his friends and family. He was a member of the Days Cross Roads Missionary Baptist Church. Besides his wife, Juanita, he is survived by; son and daughter-in-law, Benton Earl (Kim) Dyer of Defeated Creek Community in Smith County, Tenn., daughter, Janis Willis of Lafayette, Tenn., son-in-law, Howell Givens of Defeated Creek Community in Smith County, Tenn., grandchildren, Erica (Tracy) Blair, Ashley Dyer, Logan Dyer, Cayce Givens, and Cody Givens, great-grandchildren, Mahaley Shoulders, Torrie Blair, and Jordan Rogers, brother and sister-in-law, John (Mildred) Dyer, sisters, Mattie Cook and Fannie Perrigo all of Lafayette, Tenn. Maburn’s leaves a huge place to fill in the Macon County Community.
