Velma “Brownie” Hauskins, age 84, of Gallatin Healthcare and formerly of the Cedar Bluff Community in Macon County, Tenn., passed away April 16, 2009. Funeral services were conducted Sun., April 19, 2009, from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Frank Carter and Elder Jimmy Cox officiating. Velma “Brownie” Hauskins was born on Aug. 25, 1924 in Macon County, Tenn., one of six siblings to the late Kirksey and Maggie Carver Wix. She was married to Kenneth Ray Hauskins in April of 1941, sharing thirty-three years together, and raising five sons and three daughters. Kenneth preceded her in death on April 5, 1974. Besides her husband and parents; brothers, Robert Wix, Doug Wix, and James Wix, one infant sister, and one son-in-law, J. B. Hopkins, also preceded her in death. Brownie had worked for the shirt factory for several years and enjoyed helping her husband on the farm. She later became a nursing tech, working for Bean Nursing Home for ten years, before retiring. Brownie loved working in her flowers, gardening, and quilting. She was a mother who cherished her family. Her favorite pass time was playing cards and checkers with her kids and grandkids. Brownie was a member of Millers Chapel General Baptist Church. She is survived by; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth (Trisha) Hauskins, of Westmoreland, Bobby (Peggy) Hauskins, of Lafayette, Howard (Joann) Hauskins, Hartsville, Mike (Laurie) Hauskins, Lafayette, Ike Hauskins, Red Boiling Springs, daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Hopkins, of Lafayette, Peggy (Hollis) Fishburn, of Westmoreland, Terrie (Barry) Moore, of Hartsville, sister, Dixie Harp, of Lafayette, seventeen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and five step great-grandchildren.
