Helen Trawick Cowan, 83

Helen Trawick Cowan, age 83 of Chestnut Mound, Tenn., passed away Sun., April 19, 2009 at Alive Hospice at St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville, Tenn. Funeral services were held Wed., April 22, 2009 from the Carthage Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes with Bro. Ricky Hall and Bro. Bobby Hiett, officiating. Interment follow in Smith County Memorial Gardens, Carthage, Tenn.

Mrs. Cowan was born March 8, 1926 in the Enigma Community of Smith County, Tenn., the daughter of the late Bethel Frances Lambert and Alfred Betty Trawick. She was married to Patrick Travis Cowan on April 12, 1946 and he preceded her in death on April 4, 1983.  A son, Solon Kerr Cowan preceded her in death on April 9, 2008.  She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brittany Renee McCormick and two great grandchildren, Gracie Duke and Brady Wills. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Chestnut Mound Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Cowan is survived by her children, Pat (Jane) Cowan of Chestnut Mound, Tenn.; Mary Frances Cowan of Carthage, Tenn.; Elaine Cowan of Chestnut Mound, Tenn.; Glenn (Janie) Cowan of Chestnut Mound, Tenn.; David (Rhonda) Cowan of Hartsville, Tenn.; Betty (Vernon) Price of Defeated, Tenn.; Jimmy (Vickie) Cowan of Chestnut Mound, Tenn. and Melinda (Richard) McCormick of Lancaster, Tenn.; 25 Grandchildren and 36 Great Grandchildren.
