Lena Mai Flippin, 93

Lena Mai Flippin, age 93, of Lafayette, Tenn., passed away May 4, 2009, at Hartsville Convalescent Center. Funeral services were conducted Wed., May 6, 2009, from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Eddie Gregory officiating.

James Smalling, Harry Flippin, Jr., Jerry Meeks, Gary Flippin, Tommy Tucker, and Ray Flippin served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Galen Cemetery in Macon County, Tenn. Lena Mai Flippin was born on April 1, 1916 in Macon County, Tenn., to the late Bratton and Millie Jane Williams Smalling. She was married to Fred Flippin on June 17, 1933, sharing forty-one years together, and raising three children, Fred preceded her in death in 1974. Besides her husband and parents; one son, Donnie Flippin, brothers, Fred Smalling, Edgar Smalling, and Genie Smalling, sister, Tina Toler and Lorene Kirby, also preceded her in death. Lena was a homemaker; she enjoyed cooking, quilting, and reading her Bible. She enjoyed traveling and most of all being with her family. She was a very sweet and humble woman who always had a smile on her face. She loved life and had a great outlook on it. You never heard Ms. Lena say negative things about other people. Ms. Lena loved her church and was a dedicated member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby Flippin of Lafayette, Tenn., daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn (Robert) Blair of Lebanon, Tenn., grandchildren, Roger Flippin, Adam Carter, Maranda Coggins, andRobert Blair, Jr.
