Charles William Copas, 67

Charles William Copas, age 67, of Lafayette, Tenn., passed away May 19, 2009, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. Funeral services were conducted Sat., May 23, 2009 from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Anthony Hale and Brother Jerry Gammon officiating.

Odell Copas, Randy Gilmore, Jerry Dallas, Jackie Copas, John Sewell, and Larry Jones served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Sunrise Cemetery in Macon County, Tenn. Charles William Copas was born on Sep. 6, 1941 in Macon County, Tenn., to the late William Harrison and Bessie Jewel Patterson Copas. He married the former Carrie Dean Summers on Oct. 25, 1958, sharing forty-six years together, and raising two daughters, Carrie preceded him in death on July 3, 2005. Charles worked on the pipeline in earlier years; then worked for the Lafayette Fire Department and as a mechanic for The City of Lafayette. He enjoyed spending time with his daughters and his special friend, Ina Jones; listening to country music and dancing was what he did in his spare time. Charles was in his twenty’s when he and some friends went fishing in a boat, the boat turned over, Charles was tangled up and almost drowned, that was where he found peace with the Lord; one friend lost his life in the tragedy. Charles was a member of the Lafayette First Baptist Church. He is survived by; daughters, Sheila Copas and Larry Jones of Lafayette, Tenn., and Jackie Copas of the Sunrise Community in Macon County, Tenn., special friend, Ina Jones of Lafayette, Tenn., brothers, Earl Thomas (Edna) Copas of Indiana, Odell (Linda) Copas of Red Boiling Springs, Tenn., and Joe (Gail) Copas of the Sunrise Community in Macon County, Tenn., sister-in-laws, Iva Gentry, Mary Summers, Sara Likens all of Gallatin, Tenn., and Sue (Ronnie) Davenport of Portland, Tenn., several nieces and nephews, also survive.
