Ethel Mae Lawrence, 88, a resident of the Palace, formerly of Monroe Co., passed away Fri., June 5, 2009. Funeral services were conducted Mon., June 8 from Strode’s Gamaliel Chapel with Bro. Lewis Hestand and Mark Graves officiating. Interment was in the Union #1 Cemetery in Barren Co., KY.
Jimmy Rhoten, Kevin Turner, Jason Holcomb, Wayne Davis, William Davis, Ronnie Bertman, and James Lawrence served as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were Benji Lawrence, Jess Scott, Mark Copas and Employees at the Palace. Ethel was born in Allen Co., KY on March 28, 1921 to the late Will Wheet and Thulah Dar Borders Wheet. She was a member of the Capitol Hill Missionary Baptist Church since 1944, a retired homemaker, and the widow of Earlie D. Lawrence who passed away May 1, 1985. She is survived by son Earlie (Lisa) Lawrence, Jr. of Montioello, KY.; six daughters Delores Ann (J.P.) Creek of Fountain Run, KY., Dottie (Louis) Wiley of Gamaliel, Marlene Davis of Lafayette, Darlene Estes of Fountain Run, Mary Ruth Holcomb of Red Boiling Springs, Vickie (Billy) Maxwell of Celina; stepson Leslie Lawrence of Indianapolis, IN.; stepdaughters Leta Lawrence of Indianapolis, IN. and Peggy Sexton of Fl.; half brother Travis Wheet of Scottsville; half sisters Burnell Wheet and Brenda Bell both of Scottsville and Glennis Scott of Gallatin; 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by son Kenneth Lawrence; step mother Myrtie Wheet; brothers Roy Wheet and Melvin Wheet; half brothers Jay Wheet and Curtis Wheet; sisters Donna Patterson, Anges Todd and Estelle Anderson; half sister Brenda Pruitt and grandchild Ricky Lawrence.
