Benton Carver, 92

Funeral Services for Benton Carver, age 92, of Lafayette, Tenn., were conducted on Tues., June 23, 2009 from the chapel of the Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette with Elder Michael Brawner and Elder Greg Dunham officiating. Wayne Carver, Brad Carver, Adam Carver, Drew Oldham, Eric Newberry, and Kevin Gregory served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Anderson & Son Memorial Park.  Masonic Rites were conducted Mon., in the Chapel of Anderson & Son Funeral Home.   

Benton Carver passed away suddenly Sat., June 20, 2009 at his residence. A native of Macon County, Tenn., he was born on Mon., Jan. 15, 1917, the oldest of nine siblings born to the late Carson Raymond and Lola (Tuck) Carver. He married the former Dexter Kirby, the love of his life, on June 26, 1938, who preceded him in death on January 11, 1996.  To this union was born three children and through the years they were blessed with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  Other than his parents and his faithful wife of 58 years, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ottis and Aaron Carver. He left his testimony of calling on the Lord while in his bed and was saved while still a young boy.  He was a member of the Union Camp Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for more than fifty years. Mr. Benton was a farmer all his life. He was a member of the Farm Bureau for years and had served as Chairman of the ASCS County Committee. He was a 3rd Degree Mason, Lafayette Lodge #543. He loved and cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Shirley Carver, Mike (Teresa) Carver, all of Lafayette, Tenn., daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Bill Oldham of the Cato Community, brother, Steve Carver of Lafayette, GA, sisters, A. V. Wilmore of Greenbrier, Tenn., Verdie Higgins of Westfield, IN, Hazel Goad of Franklin, IN, Louise Gregory of Lafayette, Tenn., Dorothy Adamson of Indianapolis, IN, grandchildren, Wayne Carver, Brad Carver, Adam Carver, Susan Carver Newberry, Drew Carver Oldham, great-grandchildren, Brayden Carver, Jaycee Carver, Kyra Carver, Chloe Carver, and Kaylee Newberry.
