Funeral Services for Cathryn (Joines) Parkhurst, age 78, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., formerly of Macon County, were conducted on Sat., June 20, 2009 from the chapel of the Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette with Elder Don Curtis officiating. John Barton, Roger Morgan, Rick Joines, and
Keith Joines served as honorary pallbearers and her grandsons served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Haysville Cemetery in Macon County.
Cathryn (Joines) Parkhurst passed away, Wed. afternoon, with her family by her side at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro after a lengthy illness. A native of Macon County, Tenn., she was born on Fri., Jan. 9, 1931, the fifth of six siblings born to the late Hathel and Nora (Butler) Joines. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Maurine Barton, brothers Paul and Harold Joines and great-grandchild Melody Parkhurst. She has been the loving and faithful wife of Elder Tommie Parkhurst, who survives, for 60 joy filled years. She was the light of his life and a virtuous woman in the eyes of her Lord. To this union was born two children, Jane Griffith of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Mark Parkhurst of Syrmna, Tenn. They have been blessed through the years with 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She left her testimony of being saved when she was a young girl at Union Camp Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized by Elder F. L. Ray. Cathryn and Brother Tommie left the Macon County area and lived in Toledo, OH for 33 years. They were both members of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Toledo. After moving back to Macon County, she joined the Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church where she was still a member. In her younger years she worked at the Old Hickory Rayon Plant in Old Hickory, Tenn. Years later, she was employed in alterations at a major department store in Toledo, Oh. After moving back to Macon County, she was employed as Manager of the Formfit Outlet Store here in Lafayette for several years. Cathryn was an accomplished seamstress, making all of her daughter’s clothing as well as her own. When compliments were given, her daughter would always smile and say “Thank you, my mama made it.” Cathryn was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word. She cared for her husband and children with kind, loving hands. In her final days, she brought the sunshine of God’s Glory to everyone she met. Her Nurses would come to her first for her “prize winning smile” to start their day. Other than her husband of 60 years, she is survived by, son and daughter-in-law, Mark (Paulette) Parkhurst of Syrmna, Tenn., daughter and son-in-law, Jane (James) Griffith, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., sister, Rebecca Sutton, Brother, Forrest Joines, both of Lafayette, Tenn., 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
