Dixie Lee Harp, 89

Dixie Lee Harp, age 89, of Westmoreland, Tenn., passed away July 4, 2009, at her son’s residence. Funeral services were conducted Tues., July 7, 2009 from the Oakdale General Baptist Church with Reverend David Scruggs officiating. Interment followed in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Dixie was born on June 13, 1920 in Macon County, Tenn. to the late Maggie Jane Carver and Kirksey William Wix. She married Coy Eddie Harp on Dec. 1, 1935. They shared forty-four years together, raising three sons and a daughter. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1980. Besides her husband and parents, Dixie was preceded in death by daughter, Joanna McMurtry; sons, G.W. Harp and C.R. Harp; sisters, Velma “Brownie” Hauskins and an infant sister; brothers, Robert, Doug, and James Wix; grandchildren, Anthony Harp, Bobby Parrish, and Teresa Broadrick. Dixie was a homemaker most all of her life. She helped raise her brothers and sisters, and then she raised her children and helped with her grandchildren. She was always willing to help on the family farm; she also babysat many children over the years. She was a member of Oakdale General Baptist Church. Dixie is lovingly survived by one son, Wayne Harp and daughter-in-law, Kim Harp, both of the Siloam Community. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
