Roxie Evelyn Fitzwater, 87

Funeral Services for Roxie Evelyn Fitzwater, age 87, of Lafayette, Tenn. were conducted on Mon., July 13, 2009 from the chapel of the Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette with Reverend Harry Green and Reverend Nolan Brunson officiating. Laura Jane Roberts, Karlene Gass, Nick Wood, and Bill Patch served as Honorary Pallbearers. Ryan Fitzwater, Craig Heffron, Mark Templeton, John Bibby, Jason Draper and Andy Scruggs served as Active Pallbearers. She was carried to her interment site at the Anderson & Son Memorial Park in Lafayette in the antique 1913 Rock Falls wood carved hearse.

Roxie Evelyn Fitzwater departed this life on Thurs., July 9, 2009 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin after a lengthy illness. A native of Petersburg, Virginia, she was born on May 24, 1922, one of three siblings born to the late Benton Henry and Henrietta (Shielor) Ellison. In addition to her parents, her twin brother, Robert Ellison and another brother Walter Ellison preceded her in death. Mrs. Roxie was a homemaker and before becoming disabled had worked for the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation in Nashville and was Director for the local center in Lafayette in the early 1970’s. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lafayette.  She had beautiful embroidery work, was a seamstress, and was always canning vegetables with pickles being her family’s favorite. In the past, she had taught infant Sunday school classes. In addition to her devoted husband of 64 years, she is survived by, sons and daughter-in-law, John L. Fitzwater, Jr. of Lafayette, James L. (Charlene Y.) Fitzwater, of Exton, PA; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila F. (Robert M.) Heffron, Herndon, VA, Erica D. (Michael) Jackson, Lafayette, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jennifer Fitzwater, Ryan Fitzwater, Craig (Danielle) Heffron, Leslie Heffron; great-grandchildren, Erin S., Ellison, Kallie, and Kaitlyn Jackson.
