Lockie Jane Bilbrey, 94
Funeral Services for Lockie Jane Bilbrey, age 94, of Lafayette, Tenn., were conducted on Fri., July 17, 2009 from the chapel of the Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette with Jack Honeycutt officiating. Special Friends, Betty Biles, Brenda Weiss, Chantelle Pedigo, Sam Wood, Carolyn Bradley, and Steve Moss served as Honorary Pallbearers. Marty McGuire, Tommy Williams, Steve moss, Bart Barton, Dwight Davis, Joseph Hix, Wesley Bilbrey, and Jonas Barton served as Active Pallbearers. The body was driven to the gravesite in the 1913 Rock Falls wood carved antique hearse at the Anderson & Son Memorial Park. Lockie Jane Bilbrey passed away on Wed., July 15, 2009 at her residence with her family by her side.
A native of Monroe County, KY, she was born on Tues., Oct. 27, 1914, one of six siblings of the late Jim and Martha (Rush) Kee. In addition to her husband of 58 years and her parents, her half brother, Irvin Crawford, half sister, Ruth Crawford Knight, brothers, Buford Kee, Sam Kee, sister, Burnetta Trobaugh, son-in-law, James Williams, and daughter-in-law, Ann Bilbrey preceded her in death. She married the love of her life, Sam Bilbrey, in 1940, who preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1998. To this union was born seven children and through the years they were blessed with 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Leonard Church of Christ. Ms. Lockie loved working in her flowers and always, when she was able, had a big garden canning and putting up everything for her family to have good food to eat until the next garden season. She was a very special person, not only to her large family, but to other neighbors and friends who loved to drop in and talk with her. If “company” came calling during a meal time, she wanted them to eat. There was always ample food on the table for one or two more to have a taste of her good country cooking. She worked at Janwynella Nursing Home in Lafayette and Bean’s Nursing Home in Hartsville in her younger years. She is survived by her seven children, sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Pauline Bilbrey o f Lafayette, Tenn., Danny and Bonnie Bilbrey of the Ebenezer Community of Macon County, daughters, Geneva Williams of Gallatin, Tenn., Wanda and Fred Bean, Jimmie Nell and John Barton, and Ann and Ivan Davis, all of Lafayette, Tenn., Joyce and Chester Hix of the Willette Community of Macon County, Tenn., grandchildren, Regina (Marty) McGuire, Jennifer (Robert) Wright, Wesley (Tonya) Bilbrey, Tommy (Michelle) Williams, Connie (Clint) Bryant, Alecia Bean, Laura (Nathan) Roberson, Bart (Allison) Barton, Jonas Barton, Annette (Michael) White, Dwight Davis, Joseph Hix and Chestina Hix and all 14 of her great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials in the form of donations be made to the Browning Cemetery in Red Boiling Springs or the Bilbrey Cemetery in the Whitleyville Community. Those may be made at the funeral home.
