Funeral Services for Bettie Laurine McClard, age 79 of Lafayette, Tenn. were conducted on Tues., Aug. 4, 2009 from the chapel of the Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette with Elder Harold Dean Linville officiating. Travis Shrum, Jason McClard, Brad McClard, Austin Mclard, Evan Gregory, and Dean Gregory served as Pallbearers. Interment was in the Meadorville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Bettie Laurine McClard passed away on Sat., Aug. 1, 2009 at The Palace in Red Boiling Springs, where she had been a resident since the latter part of 2008.  A native of Macon County, TN, she was born on Friday, May 30, 1930, one of five siblings of the late Buford and Mary Lou (Dickerson) Shrum. She was married to Jimmie Louis McClard on Feb. 7, 1948. After 52 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 2000. To this union was born seven children and through the years they were blessed with eleven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.In addition to her husband and her parents, her sisters, Carlene Fuqua and Linda Shrum preceded her in death. She was a member of the Meadorville Missionary Baptist Church.  She worked for Texas Boot Factory for over 20 years. In the early 70’s, she and her husband owned and operated Jimmie’s Bestway Grocery Store on the Lafayette Square. She was a very good cook and enjoyed cooking and eating. She is survived by her seven children, sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Edna McClard, Hendersonville, Tenn., Jimmie K. and Chris McClard, Jerry and Becky McClard, Andy and Shelley McClard, all of Lafayette, TN, daughters and sons-in-law, Jean Shrum, Jill and Tim Flippin, all of Lafayette, Tenn., Pam and Dean Gregory of Hartsville, Tenn., brother, John Shrum, sister, Irene Shrum, both of Lafayette, Tenn., 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
