Carl “Billy” Summers, 75

Carl “Billy” Summers, better known as “Billy”, of Lafayette, Tenn., passed away Aug. 16, 2009, at the age of 75. Funeral services were conducted Tues., Aug.18, 2009, from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with Brother James Warner officiating. Kenny Summers, Richie Summers, Malachi Summers, Jeremy Sanders, Gordy Thaxton, Micky Matthews, David Matthews, and Adam Thaxton served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens.

Carl Douglas “Billy” Summers was born on Nov. 10, 1933 in Sumner County, Tenn., to the late Denver and Pearlie Mai (Key) Summers. He married the former Pauline Bergdorf on July 23, 1955, sharing almost fifty years with his sweetheart and raising eight children, Pauline preceded him in death on April 22, 2005. Besides his wife and parents; three sons, Thomas Summers, Allen Summers, Kenneth Summers, and a grandson, Anthony Summers; also preceded him in death. Billy worked for the City of Lafayette for several years, as a laborer, doing most anything that came along. He then went to work at sawmills until he retired. As a young man, he enjoyed outdoor sports; such as fishing and hunting. Billy liked listening to the Grand Ole Opry and sitting out on the porch in the shade. He loved his family; trying to keep up with his kids and playing with his grandkids was his life. Billy served with the Volunteer Fire Department in Lafayette for several years. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends that knew and loved him. He is lovingly survived by; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Summers, Wayne (Shirley) Summers, Richard (Kim ) Summers, and Jason Summers all of Lafayette, Tenn., daughter and son-in-law, Tricia (Bo) Sanders of Jackson County, Tenn., fifteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
