Wilmadene Hackett, 87

Wilmadene Hackett, age 87, of the Gladdice Community, passed away Sat., Aug. 29, 2009 at Smith County Health Care where she had made her home for several years. Funeral services were conducted Tues., Sept. 1 from her beloved Smith Memorial United Methodist Church where Edward L. Anderson and her pastor, Bro. Jeff Burton officiated. Burial followed in the Hackett Family Cemetery at Gladdice.

The last surviving of six children of the late John Elmore Smith and Nettie E. Stockton Smith. She was born in the Smith Bend Community on Nov. 24, 1921. She is preceded in death by her siblings Susan Smith, John Sam Smith, Dow Smith, Gertie Murphy and Winnie Forkum. She was married on Jan. 12, 1938 to Fred Glenn (Turnip) Hackett who preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1991. They were preceded in death by an infant daughter Peggy Hackett and great-granddaughter, Ella Rose Robinson. Mrs. Hackett was a retired factory worker having been employed at W.E. Stephens Manufacturing Co., Carthage Shirt Corporation, Heavy Duty Manufacturing and Texas Boot Co. She was a longtime member of the Smith Memorial United Methodist Church in Smith Bend which was established by her family. She was also the church pianist for many years. Surviving are four children, a daughter, Sandra Butler and husband Ronnie of Murfreesboro, three sons, Dennis Hackett and wife Judy of the Gladdice Community, Roger Hackett and wife Faye of Lock Seven Community, Larry Hackett and Pam of Smith Branch Community, six grandchildren, Kelly Butler, Tracy Woodard, Stephanie Robinson, Chasity Jenkins, Chad Hackett and Callie Hackett; eight great-grandchildren.
