Alta Mae Archer, 80

Alta Mae Archer, age 80, of Lafayette, Tenn., passed away Sept. 7, 2009, at Westmoreland Care and Rehab. Funeral services were conducted Wed., Sept. 9, 2009, at from the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Dean Dyer officiating. Joseph Copas and Steve Turner served as honorary pallbearers.

Josh Copas, Jeremiah Copas, Larry Roark, Danny Roark, Douglas Dyer, and Johnny Dale Proffitt served as active pallbearers.  Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens. Alta Mae Roark was born on Feb. 4, 1929 in Ellis County, Texas, to the late Odie and Florence Coley Roark. She was married for several years to Robert Cager Archer, having one son. Besides her parents; son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Darlene Archer, preceded her in death. She was a beautician for several years, worked in a factory for a short time, and was employed by the Westmoreland Police Department for seventeen years, before retiring to keep her great-grandchildren. Alta Mae enjoyed being around people and traveling. She would help others often, by taking them to the doctor or where ever they needed to go. She loved sewing and spending time with her Aunt Mildred, quilting. Alta Mae loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the time she spent with them. In 1943, as a fourteen year old girl, she joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized into the church where she remains a member today. Alta Mae will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. She is lovingly survived by; grandchildren, Natasha (Walter) Kittrell, and Joshua Archer, great-grandchildren, Archer Kittrell, Lane Kittrell, Lanna Kittrell, and Benjamin Archer, brother, Henry Wade Roark all of Lafayette, Tenn., and a host of extended family and friends.
