Douglas “Shotgun” Austin

Funeral Services for Douglas “Shotgun” Austin, age 67 of Red Boiling Springs, TN, were conducted Saturday afternoon, October 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Anderson & Son Funeral Home with Jimmy Cook officiating. 

 Interment followed in the Jenkins Cemetery with Military Honors.  Honorary Pallbearers were the members of Sons of Confederate Veterans.  Active Pallbearers were Kevin Williams, Anthony Williams, David Swoner, Matthew Swoner, Keith Williams, Ben Long, Jimmy Ford and Eugene Hix.  
Douglas passed away Wednesday morning, October 14, 2009 at the Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette.  He was born February 22, 1942 in Macon County, TN, the son of the late Carlie Alvis and Gladys Olene McCormick Austin.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Lucille Biles and Flora Swoner.  Shotgun was a farmer and served his country in the army during Vietnam where he received a medal for Rifle Marksman.  He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.  Shotgun will be remembered for always helping those in need.  
Survivors include: Sister & brother-in-law, Cathy & Gene Williams, Lafayette, brother & sister-in-law, Doyle & Shirley Austin, Red Boiling Springs, a host of nieces and nephews.
